Where are you from and what made you join the department?
I am from Maryland. I wanted to join the Cancer Biology Program because when interviewing for the program. It felt like there was a strong sense of community. UW – Madison also offers so many
amazing resources for cancer research that helps facilitate a lot of really interesting research.
What made you choose your current lab and the project you are working on?
I chose the Morris lab because I thought the work they were doing to understand how radiation may modulate the tumor immune microenvironment in a favorable way was really interesting. Also, the people in the lab were very welcoming and passionate about the science. Currently, I work on understanding the effect of radiation dose heterogeneity from radiopharmaceutical therapy on the anti-tumor immune response.
How do you de-stress from work?
To de-stress from work I like to spend time with my friends, who I’ve met through the program. I also like to golf on the weekends.
What made you join the Cancer Trainee Network and how did you hear about the
Travel/ Enrichment Award?
I joined the Cancer Trainee Network because it seemed like a great way to meet others doing cancer research and to engage with the community. I heard about the Travel/Enrichment Award through one of our former lab member and emails that we receive from the Cancer Trainee Network.
Any advice for interested applicants who wish to join the Cancer Trainee Network and apply for the Travel/ Enrichment Award?
My advice would be to just join even if you’re not sure what will come of it, they are always emailing out good information about resources, funding opportunities, and ways to get involved outside of the lab. I would also say if you have a conference you’re interested in and want to submit an abstract it’s also a great time to apply for the Travel/Enrichment Award.
