McArdle Postdoctoral Researcher Xin Gao Receives American Society of Hematology Scholar Award

McArdle postdoctoral researcher Xin Gao is one of 33 investigators nationwide to receive a 2023 American Society of Hematology (ASH) Scholar Award.  One of ASH’s “most prestigious research award programs”, the Scholar Awards are intended to support scientists early in their careers as they transition from trainee to independent positions.

As a “Fellow to Faculty Scholar”, Xin Gao will receive a $125,000 grant for the period 7/2023-6/2025 to support her research in advancing the understanding and treatment of blood disorders.  Specifically, Xin’s proposal to ASH describes her studies to uncover the mechanisms that regulate aging of wildtype hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and expansion of ASXL1-mutant HSCs in aged bone marrow microenvironment.

Xin joined Dr. Jing Zhang’s laboratory at the McArdle Laboratory in October 2020 after receiving a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology at UW-Madison and postdoctoral training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Congratulations to Dr. Xin Gao on this achievement!
